After retiring from teaching in 2003, my wife and I decided to move to California, which quite honestly doesn't hold a candle to your state.

I miss Maine terribly, and long for the wonderful summer days of canoeing and camping along the Allagash on various occasions during the 80's. One year my then girl friend and I paddled from John's Bridge to the southern end of Chamberlain Lake-- what a sport she was, even when two days and nights of heavy downpour forced us to stay in our extremely small pup tent. Thank God we were able to light a camp fire; we could sit around the blaze with tarpaulins to get warm before we headed back into the our "sleeping quarters--" loved every minute of it.
